Hi everyone,

The finals of the 2023 MetrO league season were held in scorching heat last Sunday at the BF area of St Ives Showground. Bennelong were in the finals for Divisions 4, 5 and 6, and thanks to some sensational runs, we won them all! Is this a record for us?

Here’s a summary of our results on the day:

In Divisions 1, 2 & 3, we scored some great individual points, but our teams were depleted due to injury and illness, which made it tough for us. We finished the year at the bottom of the table in Div 1, and middle of the pack in Divs 2 & 3.

In Division 4, we continued our unbeaten run again this year and yet again wiped Garingal off the map with a very convincing win. Can anyone ever beat us in Div 4?? Garingal certainly can’t!

In Division 5, we may have been the underdogs, but we easily beat KNOX and took the win!

And in Division 6 with our first ever team in this division, we beat Garingal, and drew on the day with SHOO/IK, so it came down to our For & Against score for the year which meant we won overall. Thereby proving that consistency across the year can make all the difference!

Congratulations to all our winning teams, a really truly amazing set of results for Bennelong – what a great club we are!

Run of the day was yet again Samuel Tsang, winning Division 4 by more than 2 minutes, and getting 10 points for Bennelong which set us up for a convincing win.

Notable mentions also to:

  1. Sergey Pikuz, with 2nd overall in Division 2. Very impressive!;
  2. Adam Brodie and Terry Bluett for 2nd and 3rd overall in Division 5, scoring 10 and 9 points respectively for their team to seal the win in Div 5; and
  3. Gordon Wilson, with 3rd in Division 4.

Full team results are available on the MetrO League website here: https://onsw.asn.au/images/stories/league/MLScores2023Rd6.pdf

Everyone who ran 3 races in Divisions 4, 5 and 6 will receive a winner’s medal (So Katherine Cameron, Julian Ledger,  Alan Gibson and Alessandra Martines, this includes you!).

Congratulations to everyone on their runs for Bennelong and hopefully we’re all looking forward to another great season in 2024!

And finally, the Club Captain’s Award – which goes to the Bennelong MetrO League runner who went above and beyond what was expected. The team member who not only contributed to our results, but who, in my opinion, was also just that little bit special this year. It was a very tough decision for me again, as we have so many members who did really well in MetrO this year. However, I finally decided that the Club Captain’s Award for 2023 goes to Adam Brodie. Congratulations Adam! In your first year of MetrO, and in Division 5, you have absolutely been just that little bit special this year.

Thank you again to all our members who contributed to MetrO this year. You certainly made my job easy and hopefully we’ll have even more BN members running MetrO in 2024!

Sheralee

BN Club Captain
