Hi Bennelong,
Our club is organising the next Sydney Summer Series event on Wed 18 Oct, starting at Killarney Heights Oval (https://eventor.orienteering.asn.au/Events/Show/19340), Linda is course planner & Terry is Controller. If you’re able to make it and have time, please check-in at the Rego Desk to see if you can help either before or after your run. Sunset is 7.10pm, so hopefully we’ll be ready for runners to start before 4.30pm.
Help required:
- 3.30pm: Arena set-up: Mel, Ryan & I fly back-in from America at 1pm on the day, so all being well, we’ll help Terry & Linda set-up the Rego desk, computer & start/finish.
- 4pm – 6.30pm: help on Rego Desk, handing out maps and taking money for enter-on-the-day.
- 5 – 7.10pm: Computer / Results. Terry usually looks after the results, but would be great for others to take a shift so Terry can have a run.
- 7.10pm: control collection & arena dismantle. It’s good to have 5+ available to collect controls afterwards. The furthest controls can start to be collected at 7pm.
Course Setter: This is Linda’s first event as course planner. It’s best for the course setter to be free of Rego Desk duties, being able to roam the assembly area to answer questions from runners beforehand and receive feedback afterwards. It’s also nice for the course setter to spend a bit of time out on the course – it’s so rewarding to see everyone being challenged by the control locations and route choices that have been inside the course setter’s head and planned on the computer for weeks/months leading up to the event.
I’m looking forward to tackling Linda’s course next week. Best wishes, Richard.
