Hi all,

Next week's SSS is a Bennelong event on a new map, Allenby Park. The start is at Allambie Heights Oval, but the whole course is across Allambie Road to the north. The start and finish will be across the road so there will be no dashing across the busy road while on course. I will need a couple of people to share minding the start and finish, an early and a late shift. As usual we will need people for rego, download and control collection. Please let me know if you can help.

Also coming up are our Sprint at Georges Heights on 7th March, Reni is setting the course and on 24th March our final SSS at Chiswick set by Simon Nash.

Other Events

Easter

Bennelong is heavily involved with this year's Easter carnival near Orange. The 3 day event is on Bennelong maps, among the best in Australia. Bennelong members have key positions in the organisation. Entries close on 7th March  and I would encourage members to enter.

To relate a personal experience. Our family entered Easter 1986 at Bendigo even though we had only done a couple of city events before. It opened up a new experience for us and we were completely hooked on orienteering since then. We used to go camping at Easter prior to this, so we camped at the event campground, made friends from all around Australia. I remember  promising juniors Richard and Eric Morris camping there with their mum, Janet. Our kids, Grant and Tracy were near the tail of their field but both became excellent orienteers and represented Australia many times at international level. So if you are wondering if Easter is worth entering I'd say definitely yes.

Bold Horizons

Every Saturday morning during school terms Bold Horizons hold sprint events at local schools, the maps are very detailed and quite tricky. I've recently updated 3 maps  in the local area that will be used this term, Mackellar Girls campus, Killara HS and Balgowlah Boys campus. Balgowlah and Killara have 3 levels and Mackellar 2 levels, so the navigation is complex. I'd highly recommend these events to you.

Sprint Series

From 5pm to 6pm on Sundays over the next few weeks, the Sprint Series will be held. Our event is on 7th March and Reni is setting the course. These are also events I'd recommend.

Metro League

The first Metro League of 2021 is not for 2 months. These are bush orienteering events. Bennelong's event is on the 23rd May. I indicated that we would hold it at the same venue as last year with the assembly area at Manly Vale Public School, which proved to be ideal in wet weather. We need a course setter, organiser and controller. Please let me know if you can do one of these roles.

All the best and i hope to see you at next weeks SSS.

regards

Terry Bluett
