The Lithgow area put on some great weather for orienteering last weekend, with cool, but not frosty weather and clear skies. Thos that made it our of Sydney were treated to two great events. On Saturday afternoon Falnash State Forest was our sportsground for SL3. The map is largely open runable terrain with a few gullies – gentle at the north end of the map and steeper in the south. many controls were on easy to spot features such as termite mounds and native cherry trees (once you knew what one looked like) and some less distinctive features like shallow gullies. 12 Bennelongers rocked up for the event with some great results. The Lithgow Workers club provided sustenance and a warm venue for all the orienteers to gather on Saturday night and mull over their maps.On Sunday we ventured into the hilltops to meet the great sandstone rock formations on the Baal Bone Junction map. While a large part of the map is gentle gully terrain, to make the best use of the towering boulders the course setter had us going up and down into and out of the rocks. This was certainly one to test the leg muscles! The wind was a bit brisk but the Junior Squads' soup and the fire kept us warm. 13 Bennelongers made it to the event and again has some great results.
