Hi All. This time of the year is the end of the Summer series and the start of the bush orienteering season.

Summer Series

I won't be at the last Summer Series so best wishes for all those running. It has been a great series and quite a few of our club members are up for awards on Wednesday night. I've been looking through the results tonight to see which club members are up for awards.

Michelle Povah and Mel Cox have got the walking categories sewn up, they can't be beaten. Likewise Rachael Povah and Steve Flick have won the Masters Women and Legends Men respectively.

In second place we have Sharon Lambert, Bethany Halmy and Tshinta Hopper in Veteran Women, Junior Women and Subjunior Women respectively. Bethany could pull up into first place if she runs on Wednesday.

Also with an incentive to go on Wednesday is Mel Cox who alternates between walking and running. He has the walking won but with a great run on Wednesday and a few other results falling his way he could miraculously pull up into 3rd place in the Superveteran Men.

Keith Povah has been to all 26 events in the series so far, there are not many who have done that and I'm sure there is an award for that.

Congratulations to all the above and to all our members who have competed in the series. Special mention should also go to Mark Savery in his 1st year who will finish 4th in the super strong Veteran Men class.

Metro League

Today was the first event in the Metro League season, we were down on numbers in some grades but our top team the Bennelong Bombers had a very convincing win, our second team the Bennelomng Bandits had a narrow 28-27 loss and the other 2 teams with members short went down. It looks like we will have full teams for coming events.

After the event today I had the pleasure of walking round part of my course with Brian Brannigan showing him how I would approach each control. It was Brian's first go at bush orienteering today and he really enjoyed it.

I plan to scan my map and explain how I approached each leg and put an article on our next Blueprint as a way of helping our less experienced orienteers step up to bush orienteering. So look out for that in our next Blueprint. I'd encourage all our members to try the pleasures of bush orienteering, it's challenging but fun as Brian can verify. There will be an excellent chance to try it at the Bennelong organised Bargo Bushies' Bash (State League 3) on 28th April. I'd recommend entering a moderate course if you are newcomer at that event.

Regards,
Terry Bluett
