A small band of 7 Bennelongers competed in the Australian Championships carnival at St Helens in Tasmania. The most outstanding results by our club members were by Steve Flick in M65. Steve won the Australian Long Championships, was 2nd in the Australian Sprint Championship and teamed up with myself and Ross Barr to win the Australian Relays in the top NSW team. Gordon Wilson won the Australian Long in M55AS and was 2nd in the Tasmanian Championships. Gordon has progressed really well since injuring his achilles at Easter and it should be long when he is competing in the top grade again. As well as teaming up with Steve and Ross in the Relay I managed to win the Tasmanian Championships and was 2nd in the Australian Middle.

Eric Morris was a creditable 9th in M21E in the Australian Long Championships in a very strong field. Graham Galbraith was close to a badge in M55AS with a few 4th places.

On the whole it was a great carnival with most events being in challenging tin-mining terrain, but with an urban sprint around the rocky foreshores of Bicheno thrown in.

The last month has been a great one for quality orienteering starting with the NSW championships and ending with the Australian carnival.
